Using the past to change the future
Saturday, October 22nd, 2011We may not be able to change the way we behaved in the past, but we can change how we behave today. God gave us memory, not to re-hash the past and beat ourselves up, rather to remember the lesson.
Take any past challenging experience and ask yourself these questions:
- Which thoughts, words and behaviors worked?
- Which thoughts, words and behaviors didn’t work?
- If I could re-live the scene with a new stage back-drop, what thoughts, words and behaviors would I choose, knowing what I know?
In the movie GroundHog Day, Bill Murray plays a character who is stuck in the same day, and re-lives it over and over again. Each day he wakes up and has a fresh crack at molding and perfecting it.
Our lives are no different. We get the same chance every day to get it right.
Starting today, from a new awareness, how will you think, speak and behave differently?
